Every year throughout June the area celebrates the North Devon Festival. This festival includes a fantastic range of musical and theatrical events and is rated one of the top five festivals in the UK.

The Gold Coast Oceanfest surfing and music festival, takes place every year in June, in Croyde itself.

The North Devon Food Festival is held annually, usually in October.
Ilfracombe Victorian Week takes place each June and Ilfracombe returns to its Victorian roots. Come and join in the fun.

Arington Court, an imposing regency stately home, owned by the National Trust is just a few miles away, and includes lovely gardens to explore and a carriage museum.

Clovelly is an old fishing village clinging to the steep cliff, with cobbled streets, a lovely harbour, souvenir shops and pubs. A step back in time, and stunningly beautiful.

Instow and Appledore – pretty villages facing each other across the River Torridge.  

The Big Sheep is close to Bideford and will keep you and your children amused for hours, with a wide array of activities, including sheep races, trampolines, go-cart racing, and a massive play area for children.

For children The Milky Way near Clovelly has plenty to keep them happy for the whole day.

The Braunton Burrows Biosphere Reserve is the only UNESCO Biosphere reserve in Britain, a fabulous area of sand dunes and grassland to explore, home to a huge selection of wildlife.

Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is a narrow gauge railway with steam engines running along a picturesque line in Exmoor.

Marwood Hill Gardens are a short drive away. They were created by Dr James Smart who developed them from about 1960 onwards to the joy they are now. You can purchase plants while visiting the gardens.

RHS Rosemoor is at Great Torrington and these gardens have matured into a wonderful display of different gardens within the whole complex. They include the original gardens created by Lady Anne Palmer and cover some 65 acres. There is a restaurant and plant sales so you can make a great day out here. Plenty to see at all times of the year.

The North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival offers guided walks in early May each year. You can download self guided walk routes from West Country Walks who run the walking festival. North Devon and Exmoor provide some superb walking with the South West Coast Path being only a short distance from Fuchsia Cottage. The regular bus service along the North Devon coast provides holiday makers with the chance to take a bus to a spot further along the coat, and then to walk back along the coast path to Croyde.

There are a wide selection of cycle trails in North Devon, including the Tarka Trail cycleway following the route of the old railway from Barnstaple to the coast. Flat, traffic free cycling, perfect for the whole family.

There is quality cycle hire at Braunton and Barnstaple.

Surfing back to top
Croyde is a perfect centre for surfing with various surfing schools providing lessons. The beach is patrolled by the RNLI.  Nearby Saunton beach, Woolacombe and Putsborough beach are also ideal for surfing.

North Devon is blessed with some excellent restaurants and pubs. Popular local pubs include the Thatch at Croyde and the Rock Inn at Georgeham and the award winning Squires fish and chip restaurant in Braunton.  There is a huge selection of good places to eat in the area.  You’ll be spoilt for choice.
